The Shannon Sullivan GSA Technical Assistance Fund

The Board extends their deepest gratitude to Shannon for her legacy of youth leaders, policies protecting youth that include sexual orientation and gender identity/expression, and the realization of the Alliance’s statewide mission. It is Shannon’s vision, commitment, and leadership which firmly established a strong foundation for the Alliance and its ongoing work to promote the safety, support and healthy development of youth throughout Illinois.

Under Shannon’s leadership, the Alliance has more than doubled the network of Gay-Straight Alliances (GSAs) across the state, growing the network from 80 to 163 GSAs – including three middle schools! With over 650 high schools and nearly as many middle schools in Illinois, much remains to be done! It is our resolve to have a strong focus on GSA support and technical assistance in small towns and rural areas, as well as in middle schools and junior highs.

To honor the decade of service Shannon has given to the Alliance, and the larger LGBTQ safe schools movement, the Alliance Board of Directors has established The Shannon Sullivan GSA Technical Assistance Fund. It will provide a full-year of support and assistance to a chosen GSA affording them:

     * One-year of ongoing technical assistance to help identify and execute on GSA established goals
     * Registration & transportation to Fall & Spring Youth Leadership Summits
     * Active role and presence in the Alliance’s Night of Noise
     * Kit to support their GSA’s Day-of-Silence activities
     * Alliance sponsored event(s) in their own community
     * A feature in the Annual Report issue of Arrows: Charting the Course – the Alliance’s quarterly newsletter
