2022 youth leadership Summit series
The Annual Youth Leadership Summit is typically a day-long opportunity for peer-led education, networking, and connecting in order to further the safer schools movement via school and community-based GSAs and youth groups. This year we’re taking it virtual and spreading the love! The Illinois Safe Schools Alliance Youth Committee co-develops and co-facilitates workshops for GSA youth leaders and the adults who support them to take place across 3 sessions for a series of fun and educational movement building! This year’s theme focuses on Art as Resistance and will include planning for GSA Day for Racial Justice (in February) and Day of Silence and Night of Noise (in April).
Who should attend? Any middle or high school student involved in playing a leadership role in their GSA! (Or any adult ally who acts as advisor/sponsor in these spaces!) GSAs are welcome to register as full groups, though we will have separate breakout rooms for adult planning sessions.
When is it?
Tuesday, January 18, will focus on GSA Day for Racial Justice
Thursday, February 24 will focus on Day of Silence and Night of Noise
Wednesday, March 2 will be a showcase of all the awesome art GSAs across the state have created for these important days of action!
All workshops will occur 3:30-5:00
Where is it? In virtual space via Zoom! Attendees will have the best experience joining from a laptop or computer, but participation via other devices is welcome.
